Zoran Stevanović belonged to a group of Arkan’s commandos, although some consider him a member of the State Security (which does not exclude the former), and some even say that he was an agent of the military Counterintelligence Service Zoran Stevanović’s name appeared in the press for the first and only time in November 1990, when he was arrested with Željko Ražnatović Arkan and two others in Dvor na Una in Croatia. They had several pistols and hand grenades in the vehicle, and since the disintegration of Yugoslavia had already begun, they were accused of preparing an armed rebellion with the aim of overthrowing the constitutional order of the Republic of Croatia. The investigation lasted several months, they were released in 1991 after an agreement between Milošević and Tuđman. Allegedly, another million German marks were paid…

Stevanović (36) was a master of martial arts. Thanks to that, he gained a lot of money and a great friend Arkan in Sweden. He belonged to a group of Arkan’s commandos, although some sources consider him a member of the State Security (which does not exclude the former), and some even say that he was an agent of the military Counterintelligence Service. On the other hand, in some writings he was linked with the sale of weapons to Krajina Serbs…

In one of the obituaries published after his murder, it was also written that he was “one of the founders of the Serbian Volunteer Guard”. With the money brought from the battlefield, he started a private business: he was the only importer of “Pirelli” tires, and he was also a co-owner of the “Reporter” boutique in the “Metropol” hotel, which sold original Italian clothing. He often traveled to Italy on business, and on one occasion he was in a group of twelve businessmen from Serbia who met with Fiat driver Gianni Agnelli. Some experts in the underworld say that Stevanović was also involved in collecting large domestic and foreign debts…

He was killed in front of the “Metropol” hotel on August 30, 1996. As usual, he parked his “Volkswagen coupe” in front of the “Reporter” boutique a little before 10 o’clock that day and went to the hotel’s cafe to drink coffee. A young, unshaven man followed him; in his left hand he held a travel bag, and in his right “scorpion” wrapped in “Večernje Novosti”. Five or six meters from the entrance to the hotel, an unknown young man caught up to Stevanović, dropped his bag, threw a newspaper and fired two short bursts into his back. The automatic pistol had a silencer and the shots were not heard at all.
